THE MOUNTAIN CREEKS

The region surrounding our fly fishing centre is rich with small trout waters. These mountain headwater streams are the domain of the fit and adventurous fly fisher, as they often require a bit of effort to get into.

There are literally a dozen of them within an hour’s drive of our place and most folk totally overlook them. They are teeming with small, wild browns. These fish will rise to a dry fly regardless of the circumstances and short, lightweight rods are required.

This fishing is restricted to late spring through until mid-Autumn, with the hottest of summer days the best to be up in the hills. The temperature is always 5-10 degrees lower than on the valley floor and the pure pleasure of wet wading on these days is impossible to adequately convey.

A good wading staff, a box of dry flies and lunch are all that is required for a day on these small mountain creeks.
