Bullet Head Variant  by Michael Mc Brien

Hook:  Mustard size 12 long shank.
Thread: Brown 6/0
Body: Yellow chenille
Wing: Golden pheasant tippet
Head: Natural deer hair
Legs: Orange rubber, marked with permanent marker.

Tie in body, wind to 2/3 of hook shank. Fold and tie in a pheasant tippet feather as wing.

Cut a good clump of deer hair and stack it.  Measure up proportions and tie in just behind eye of hook and spin.

Wind thread back to chenille body, fold back deer hair and tie off to form head.

Tie in and position pre-marked legs on either side of the
head.  Use fingers to whip finish at collar. Trim back hair from underneath.  A couple of drops of varnish on the
collar to secure.

Note: Stacking makes judging the proportions much easier. Use good strong thread, 6/0 min to avoid distress. A good early season hopper pattern, try various colours and sizes. Like most hoppers, fish it with a positive "plop" presentation over likely looking spots.
