HOOK SIZE #10-12 Heavy Gauge Dry Fly Hook

THREAD Brown 6/0 Uni thread

TAIL Golden Pheasant Tippets

BODY Yellow Chenille

LEGS Orange Pheasant Tippets

OVER WING Pheasant Rump Feather or Church Window

HEAD Natural Deer Hair

METHOD

Wind in your thread above the hook barb. Tie in your pheasant tippets for a tail..this should be almost equal in length to half of the hook shank.

Next tie in your chenille. Wind the thread forward to a point approximately one third the length of the hook shank behind the hook eye. This leaves us enough room to construct the head. Now wind the chenille up to this point and tie off and trim the excess.

Tie in two sets of legs, one on each side of the hook using your pheasant tippets. Have a look at the third photo to see the configuration. This should extend to about the halfway mark of the tail section.

Next take your pheasant  feather and tie in as an overwing. This should envelope over the top of the legs. I recommended tying this feather shiny side down as we are tying it to look right for the fish not the fisherman! Trim the excess.

Take some natural deer hair and tie in just to the front of the chenille. Tie in. Pack this back with your fingers. Then add a second bunch and repeat the process. Keep tying in, spinning and packing until you reach the hook eye and have what looks like a deer hair golf ball.

Tie off and add two half hitches to finish. Trim to shape.
